About Cartier
Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847. In 1904 Louis Cartier granted a wish of the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont, to be able to tell the time while flying, and Cartier describes the result as one of the first ever wristwatches.
Louis Cartier imagined the tortoise-inspired Tortue in 1912 and created the Tank in 1917. The first Tank prototype was presented as a gift to General Pershing before the watch reached the market in 1919. Its lugs blend into flat vertical brancards, and it has been reinterpreted for over a century, among others as the Tank Cintrée, Chinoise, Américaine and Française.
The Crash followed in London in 1967, with its asymmetrical dial. The Panthère de Cartier, designed in the 1980s, takes its name from the bracelet of the same name.
