The large Santos-Dumont skeleton with a micro-rotor
The Cartier Santos-Dumont skeleton, reference WHSA0044, in a steel and black lacquer case, 43.5 x 31.4 mm and 8 mm thick. Automatic calibre 9629 MC with a micro-rotor, on a black alligator leather strap.
Cartier traces the Santos-Dumont to 1904, when Louis Cartier met the wish of the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont to tell the time while flying. Cartier names the rounded dial angles, the continuous curve of the horns and the visible screws as features of the design.
The bridges of this skeleton are covered in black lacquer, and both the crystal and the caseback are sapphire. Blued-steel sword-shaped hands show the time.
