The large Santos de Cartier set with baguette-cut diamonds
The Santos de Cartier, reference HPI01687, in a rhodiumised 18-carat white gold case, 47.5 x 40 mm and 9.1 mm thick, with a silvered sunray-effect dial. Automatic calibre 1847 MC, on a navy blue alligator leather strap with an ardillon buckle.
Cartier traces the Santos de Cartier to 1904, when Louis Cartier met the wish of the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont to tell the time while flying. Cartier points to the dial's rounded angles and the continuous curve of the horns.
The case is set with 126 baguette-cut diamonds totalling 5.90 carats, and the crown with a brilliant-cut diamond. The buckle carries 28 baguette-cut diamonds totalling 1.10 carats.
