The Santos-Dumont skeleton with a diamond-set micro-rotor
The Cartier Santos-Dumont skeleton, reference HPI01826, in a rhodiumised 18-carat white gold case, 43.5 x 31.9 mm and 8.3 mm thick. Automatic calibre 9631 MC with a micro-rotor, on a semi-matte navy blue alligator leather strap with a diamond-set ardillon buckle.
Cartier dates the Santos-Dumont to 1904 and says Louis Cartier answered the wish of the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont to read the time while flying. This skeleton version has brilliant-cut diamonds on the case, bezel, crown, bridges, micro-rotor and buckle.
The movement is the automatic calibre 9631 MC, 23.9 mm across and 4.7 mm thick, with a power reserve of approximately 44 hours. The micro-rotor has mother-of-pearl and is set with 37 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 0.1 carats.
