The Patek Philippe Rare Handcrafts pocket watch Toile de Jouy, reference 995/146J-001, a unique piece in yellow gold with tigers painted in violet-blue on white enamel across the case back and band, a matching white enamel dial, and a tanzanite cabochon crown. The reference 995/146J-001 is a pocket watch from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece in yellow gold decorated after toile de Jouy, the French printed cotton, with tigers in a jungle drawn in one violet-blue on white. The case is 45 mm across and 9.72 mm high with a solid back, humidity- and dust-protected only and not water-resistant. It is delivered with a yellow gold stand carrying three palm trees on an oval sodalite base, and with a yellow gold chain decorated with a violet-blue enamel medallion bearing a Calatrava cross.
The enameller outlined the scene on the case back and filled the outlines with white enamel as the ground for miniature painting, then painted the tigers in a single violet-blue shade in the manner of the printed cloth. The picture was sealed and its colour deepened under several coats of flux, a transparent enamel, in the Geneva technique; the case band was enamelled all round as well, and the back was polished after firing. The work took 11 firings at 780°C to 830°C. The dial is white enamel painted in the same violet-blue and finished under flux, with applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands in yellow gold; the crown carries a tanzanite cabochon (0.32 ct). The movement is the manual-winding calibre 17''' LEP PS with small seconds: 38.65 mm across, 3.8 mm high, 157 parts, 18 jewels, a Breguet balance spring at 18,000 semi-oscillations an hour, at least 50 hours of reserve and the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
Patek Philippe names a single violet-blue shade for both back and dial, and the decoration continues over the case band. The stone on the crown, a tanzanite, matches the shade.
