The Patek Philippe Rare Handcrafts pocket watch Great White Shark, reference 995/141G-001, a unique piece in white gold with a shark in wood marquetry set into an enamelled sea on the case back, a blue-gradient enamel dial, and a topaz cabochon crown. Manual-winding calibre 17''' LEP PS with small seconds; 45 mm, 9.72 mm high.
The reference 995/141G-001 is a pocket watch from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece in white gold whose case back carries a great white shark in wood marquetry against an enamelled sea. The case is 45 mm across and 9.72 mm high with a solid back, humidity- and dust-protected only and not water-resistant. It is delivered with a white gold stand decorated with hand-engraved coral branches on a trolleite base, and with a white gold chain suspending a medallion with an enamelled Calatrava cross.
The shark itself is wood: 161 pieces of veneer and 25 smaller inlays cut and assembled from 18 species chosen for colour, texture and grain. It was then set into a background prepared in transparent and opaque enamels in 16 colours, with the deep-sea creatures around it added in 7 colours of miniature painting on enamel; the enamelling took 10 firings at 820°C. The dial is a blue gradient in 3 colours of transparent enamel, fired 11 times at 820°C, with applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands in white gold; the crown carries a London Blue topaz cabochon (0.29 ct). The movement is the manual-winding calibre 17''' LEP PS with small seconds: 38.65 mm across, 3.8 mm high, 157 parts, 18 jewels, a Breguet balance spring at 18,000 semi-oscillations an hour, at least 50 hours of reserve and the Patek Philippe Seal.

This piece combines marquetry with enamel on the same surface — the wooden animal is let into a fired enamel ground rather than into wood — and Patek Philippe counts it accordingly, in veneer pieces (161 and 25 inlays), species (18) and enamel colours (16 plus 7 painted).
