A grande sonnerie in a wristwatch
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Grande and Petite Sonnerie, Minute Repeater, reference 6301P-001, in platinum with a glazed black Grand Feu enamel dial and white gold Breguet numerals, on a shiny black alligator strap. Manually wound calibre GS 36-750 PS IRM striking on three classic gongs, with jumping small seconds; 44.8 mm, 12.03 mm high.
The reference 6301P-001 is the grande sonnerie wristwatch in Patek Philippe's current collection: it carries a grande sonnerie, a petite sonnerie and a minute repeater, striking on three classic gongs, and the brand presents the grande sonnerie as the highest of the acoustic functions and the reference as its reaffirmation of it. The platinum case, 44.8 mm across and 12.03 mm high, has a concave bezel and countersunk satin-finished flanks with a diamond set at 12 o'clock; it is humidity- and dust-protected only, with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal backs. The dial is black Grand Feu enamel with a glazed finish on an 18K gold plate, with white gold applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands with luminescent coating.
The calibre GS 36-750 PS IRM is hand-wound and, Patek Philippe says, derived from the calibre 300 of the Grandmaster Chime. It measures 37 mm across and 7.5 mm high, with 703 parts and 95 jewels, runs at 25,200 semi-oscillations an hour (3.5 Hz) on a Spiromax® balance spring, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal. Two power reserves are shown by hand: the movement's, 72 hours, at 9 o'clock, and the strikework's, 24 hours, at 3 o'clock. The sonnerie modes are selected by a slide switch in the case flank at 6 o'clock and the minute repeater is released by a pusher integrated in the crown. Patek Philippe counts two patented innovations in the striking mechanism, and a patented jumping small seconds at 6 o'clock.

The engineering is legible on the dial: a power reserve for the movement at 9 o'clock and another for the strikework at 3 o'clock, a patented jumping small seconds at 6 o'clock, and the chiming controlled by a slide switch in the flank at 6 o'clock and a pusher in the crown. The movement is, in Patek Philippe's account, derived from the Grandmaster Chime's calibre 300.
