Overview

Twenty complications in a reversible case

The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Grandmaster Chime, Rare Handcrafts, reference 6300GR-001, in rose gold and white gold with a reversible hobnail-guilloched case and brown opaline dials, on a patinated dark chestnut alligator strap. Manually wound calibre GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM with 20 complications on three gongs; 47.7 mm, 16.07 mm high.

The reference 6300GR-001 is the Grandmaster Chime, which Patek Philippe calls Patek Philippe's most complicated wristwatch, in its first execution in white gold and rose gold. It carries 20 complications, five of them acoustic: a grande sonnerie, a petite sonnerie, a minute repeater, an alarm that strikes the programmed time and a date repeater that sounds the date on demand — the last two described by Patek Philippe as patented world exclusives. The case is double-faced and reversible on a patented rotation mechanism, so the watch can be worn with either dial up: a time side and a calendar side, both brown opaline on 18K solid gold plates. It is 47.7 mm across and 16.07 mm high, hand-guilloched with a hobnail pattern, humidity- and dust-protected only, with a sapphire crystal back.

The calibre GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM is hand-wound, 37 mm across and 10.7 mm high, with 1,366 parts and 108 jewels, at 25,200 semi-oscillations an hour (3.5 Hz) on a Spiromax® balance spring, under the Patek Philippe Seal; the movement holds 72 hours of reserve and the strikework 30, each with its own indication. The strike is on three classic gongs, with a display of the strikework mode, an alarm on/off aperture and a strikework isolator indication. The time side shows home time on a rose gold pear-shaped hand and local time on a white gold skeletonised one, with a day/night indication for the second zone and a crown position indication. The calendar side carries an instantaneous perpetual calendar — day, month and leap year by hands, the date on both dials, a four-digit year in an aperture — and the moon phases.

For collectors

This is the two-tone execution, and Patek Philippe marks it as the first Grandmaster Chime in white and rose gold, with brown opaline dials and a hobnail-guilloched time side. Of the 20 complications, Patek Philippe's own emphasis is on the two it calls world exclusives — the alarm with time strike and the date repeater.
