The Patek Philippe Rare Handcrafts Planisphere, reference 5531G-010, in white gold with a champlevé enamel and hand-engraved world-map dial, on a grained light brown calfskin strap. Self-winding calibre R 27 HU, a minute repeater with World Time for all 24 time zones; 40.2 mm, 11.49 mm high.
The dial of 5531G-010 is a map of the world in champlevé enamel and hand-engraving — which Patek Philippe calls Planisphere. The engraver first cut the ocean depths into the dial plate by hand; the enameller then laid translucent blue enamel over them and worked the mid-ocean ridges and trenches in transparent enamels in 3 colours, through 10 to 15 firings at about 780°C; after the last firing the engraver returned to cut his reading of the continental plates. Patek Philippe presents it as a limited edition of ten watches.
The reference 5531G-010 is a Calatrava minute repeater with World Time from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, in white gold. The case is 40.2 mm across and 11.49 mm high; the case and the repeater's slide piece are hand-guilloched with the hobnail (clous de Paris) pattern Patek Philippe calls emblematic of its style, the lugs are skeletonised, and the watch is delivered with two case backs, sapphire crystal and solid white gold, that can be exchanged. A skeletonised white gold hour hand, whose shape Patek Philippe traces to the Southern Cross, and a lozenge-outline white gold minute hand read the time.
The movement is the self-winding calibre R 27 HU, which combines a minute repeater with the World Time mechanism: 32 mm across, 8.5 mm high, 452 parts and 45 jewels, wound by a 22K gold off-centre minirotor that is itself guilloched. The World Time display gives a 24-hour and day/night indication for all 24 time zones, and the repeater is a local time strike — it chimes the time shown for the selected zone, on two classic gongs, when the slide piece is drawn. The calibre runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, has a power reserve of 43 to 48 hours and carries the Patek Philippe Seal. Patek Philippe describes the case as humidity- and dust-protected only, not water-resistant.

Patek Philippe presents the calibre R 27 HU as a Grand Complication movement whose architecture and finishing are meant to be seen, which is why a sapphire crystal back is fitted and a solid white gold back supplied beside it. The dial is an engraved-and-enamelled world map, worked in 3 transparent colours over 10 to 15 firings and engraved again after the enamel was fired, in an edition Patek Philippe gives as ten watches.
