Overview
The hunter-style pocket watch with a power-reserve arc
The Patek Philippe hunter-style pocket watch, reference 983J-001, in yellow gold with a silvery vertically satin-finished dial, yellow gold Breguet numerals and hands, and two hinged covers. Manual-winding calibre 17''' SAV PS IRM with small seconds at 6 o'clock and a 36-hour power-reserve arc at 12 o'clock; 48 mm, 9.9 mm high.
The reference 983J-001 is the hunter-style pocket watch of Patek Philippe's Pocket Watches collection with a power-reserve indication, in yellow gold. The construction is the hunter's: winding crown at 3 o'clock and two hinged covers, one over the dial and one over the case back, in a 48 mm case 9.9 mm high with a solid back, humidity- and dust-protected only and not water-resistant. The dial is silvery with a vertical satin finish, with applied Breguet numerals and Breguet-style hands in yellow gold; the hours and minutes are joined by small seconds at 6 o'clock and, across an arc at 12 o'clock, the state of wind.
The movement is the manual-winding calibre 17''' SAV PS IRM: 38.65 mm across, 3.8 mm high, 181 parts and 20 jewels, on a Breguet balance spring at 18,000 semi-oscillations an hour, with a power reserve of at least 36 hours and the Patek Philippe Seal. The IRM designation is the indication de réserve de marche, the power-reserve display: a hand driven from the mainspring barrel travels across the arc at 12 o'clock as the spring runs down, so the owner can see how much of the 36 hours remains before the watch stops.
For collectors
The reference is the one pocket watch in the collection with a complication beyond small seconds, and Patek Philippe describes the indication as a 36-hour reserve read across an arc at 12 o'clock — the position a Lépine crown would occupy, which the hunter layout leaves free.
