Four complications, one self-winding movement
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Minute Repeater, Split-seconds Chronograph, Instantaneous Perpetual Calendar, reference 5308G-001, in polished white gold with a sunburst ice blue dial and blue metallised markers and hands, on a shiny navy blue alligator strap. Self-winding calibre R CHR 27 PS QI with moon phases and small seconds; 42 mm, 17.71 mm high.
The reference 5308G-001 is what Patek Philippe calls a Quadruple Complication: a minute repeater, a split-seconds chronograph and an instantaneous perpetual calendar in one self-winding movement, with moon phases and small seconds. The white gold case is fully polished with skeletonised lugs, 42 mm across and 17.71 mm high, humidity- and dust-protected only, and comes with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal backs. The dial is sunburst ice blue on an 18K gold plate, with applied faceted baton-style hour markers and faceted dauphine-style hands in white gold, blue metallised.
The calibre R CHR 27 PS QI measures 32 mm across and 12.28 mm high, with 799 parts and 67 jewels, and is wound by a platinum off-centre guilloched minirotor; it runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour (3 Hz) on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, with 38 to 48 hours of power reserve when the chronograph is disengaged, under the Patek Philippe Seal. Patek Philippe names several innovations, two of them patented. The perpetual calendar is instantaneous: its discs pass over the three day, date and month apertures, set along an arc, in 30 milliseconds, with the leap year and a day/night indication in apertures as well. The split-seconds chronograph is a monopusher with a patented isolation mechanism and an anti-backlash clutch wheel that Patek Philippe says eliminates chronograph friction; it carries 60-minute and 12-hour counters. The strike is on two classic gongs.
