Overview

Cathedral gongs and a perpetual calendar, under blue enamel

The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Minute Repeater, Perpetual Calendar, reference 5374G-001, in white gold with a glazed blue Grand Feu enamel dial and white gold Breguet numerals, on a shiny dusk blue alligator strap. Self-winding calibre R 27 Q chiming on two cathedral gongs, with perpetual calendar by hands; 42 mm, 12.2 mm high.

The reference 5374G-001 is a self-winding Grand Complication uniting a minute repeater on two “cathedral” gongs with a perpetual calendar, in white gold with a blue Grand Feu enamel dial. Patek Philippe describes the case as an interplay of curves brought out by polished and satin-brushed finishes, with a concave bezel and recessed satin-finished flanks; it is 42 mm across and 12.2 mm high, humidity- and dust-protected only, and comes with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal backs. The dial is glazed Grand Feu blue enamel on an 18K gold plate, with applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands in white gold, the hands with white luminescent coating.

The calibre R 27 Q is wound by a 22K gold off-centre guilloched minirotor and measures 28 mm across and 6.9 mm high, with 478 parts and 39 jewels; it runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour (3 Hz) on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for 38 to 48 hours of power reserve, under the Patek Philippe Seal. The calendar is read by hands — day, date, month, leap year and a 24-hour indication — with the moon phases at 6 o'clock in a champlevé aperture. The two cathedral gongs, Patek Philippe says, give the strike a deep, rich sound.

For collectors

Patek Philippe names the two mechanisms it puts together and one material choice: cathedral gongs for the strike, a perpetual calendar read entirely by hands, and a glazed Grand Feu enamel dial whose moon-phase aperture it describes as champlevé.
