Overview
The four seasons by their constellations
The Patek Philippe dome table clock Celestial Globe, reference 20206M-001, a unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné and paillonné enamel with miniature painting and grisaille, the four seasons by their constellations, an oval light-blue hour circle; 213.5 mm high, 128 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 20206M-001 is a dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece whose panels give the four seasons as the constellations visible at each time of year, with the solar system drawn among them. It is worked in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel, with the sky in miniature painting, the monochrome figures in grisaille enamel au blanc de Limoges and silver leaf beneath the colour.
The orbits and the figures of the constellations were outlined in about 7.26 m of gold wire (around 18.66 g). The Milky Way's haze took transparent and opaque enamels in 10 colours, the astronomical detail 3 colours of miniature painting on enamel, and the finishing was done in grisaille enamel au blanc de Limoges — white enamel worked over a dark ground to give the figures a sculpted, monochrome relief. Silver leaf embedded under the translucent enamel, the paillonné technique, lights the stars and the symbols of the seasons. Each enamelled plate needed 14 firings at about 770°C. The hour circle is oval, in light-blue lacquer, with applied Roman numerals and leaf-shaped hands in gilt; the dial centre is hand-guilloched as the sun's rays and inlaid with cloisonné enamel, and a stylised sun sits at the centre of the hands. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
For collectors
Four enamel techniques on one clock — cloisonné, painting, grisaille and paillonné — and an oval hour circle; Patek Philippe also puts a hand-cut guilloché sun at the dial centre, under cloisonné.
