Overview
The Stellisee and the Matterhorn in cloisonné enamel
The Patek Philippe dome table clock Stellisee, reference 20204M-001, a unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel showing the lake above Zermatt with Mont Cervin, the base hand-engraved with its name, with gilt Arabic numerals on brown lacquer; 213.5 mm high, 128 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 20204M-001 is a dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece whose panels show the Stellisee, a lake above Zermatt at 2,537 metres, with Mont Cervin on its shore and the clouds reflected in its surface. Patek Philippe presents it as a tribute to the Alpine landscape and a reminder of its fragility, in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel.
The lake, its fauna and the mountain were outlined in about 5.8 m of gold wire (around 11.6 g), and the cells filled with transparent, opalescent, opaque and semi-opaque enamels in 30 colours; Patek Philippe credits the enameller's gradations and transparencies with the reflection of the clouds in the water. Each enamelled plate went through 6 to 8 firings at 790°C to 850°C. The hour circle is brown lacquer with applied gilt Arabic numerals and brown-lacquered leaf-shaped hands, and the base of the clock is hand-engraved with the lake's name and its place, Canton du Valais, Suisse. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
For collectors
The one dome clock Patek Philippe describes as engraved with its own caption — the lake's name and canton cut by hand into the base — and one of the lighter cloisonné pieces by wire, 5.8 m, since the subject is water and sky rather than figure.
