A Song landscape in blue-and-green enamel
The Patek Philippe dome table clock Chinese Panels, reference 20203M-001, a unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel with miniature painting, after Wang Ximeng's A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, with gold-dusted Chinese numerals on green lacquer; 213.5 mm high, 128 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 20203M-001 is a dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece whose panels reproduce the mountain landscape of A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, the one surviving painting by Wang Ximeng of the Northern Song dynasty, in the blue-and-green manner of that period. It is worked in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel with the houses and boats of the original in miniature painting.
The plates were brushed first, to take the texture of canvas. The mountains were then outlined in about 5.35 m of gold wire (around 14.25 g) and coloured in a palette of transparent and opaque enamels in 5 colours — the blue-and-green of the source — with 14 colours of miniature painting on enamel for the houses and boats. Each enamelled plate went through 16 firings at about 750°C. The hour circle is green lacquer around a sunburst centre under translucent blue enamel; the Chinese numerals are transfer-printed and dusted with yellow gold to match the gilt leaf-shaped hands. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.

A cloisonné palette of 5 colours, because the source painting is itself two colours; Patek Philippe gives brushed plates and transfer-printed Chinese numerals in gold dust.
