Overview
Andalusian ornament, with three cities in miniature
The Patek Philippe dome table clock Andalusia, reference 20196M-001, a unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel with Seville, Cadiz and Granada in miniature painting set into Moorish ornament, with green-lacquered Roman numerals on white lacquer; 213.5 mm high, 128 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 20196M-001 is a dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece whose panels take the geometric ornament of Andalusian and Moorish architecture and set three painted views into it — Seville, Cadiz and Granada, the region's principal cities. Patek Philippe presents it as a tribute to that architecture, in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel with the cities in miniature painting on enamel.
The ornament was drawn in about 12.9 m of gold wire (around 24.18 g) and coloured in 27 shades of enamel, mostly transparent with some semi-transparent and opaque. The three cities are miniature painting on enamel in 20 colours — small pictures Patek Philippe singles out for their fineness — and the enameller worked the dome as well, whose spire is finished as a jewellery appliqué. Each enamelled plate went through 14 firings at about 770°C. The hour circle is white lacquer with applied Roman numerals in green lacquer and gilt leaf-shaped hands, around a sunburst centre under translucent green enamel. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
For collectors
Two techniques at two scales: the ornament in wire and 27 shades of fired enamel, and inside it three city views painted in 20 colours — Patek Philippe treats the paintings as the measure of the piece, and the dome's spire is worked rather than left plain.
