Overview
The Old Man of Storr in cloisonné enamel
The Patek Philippe dome table clock Scotland, reference 20192M-001, a unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel showing the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye, with a cloisonné thistle at the centre of the dial; 213.5 mm high, 128 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 20192M-001 is a dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece whose enamelled panels show the countryside around the Old Man of Storr, the rock monolith on the Isle of Skye. Patek Philippe presents it as an homage to Scotland: the plains, the overcast sky, the sea and the rock itself in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel, with a purple-tinted thistle in cloisonné enamel at the centre of the dial and the Patek Philippe Genève logo transfer-printed in the same colour.
Cloisonné enamel is drawn first in wire: the enameller laid about 6.3 m of gold wire (around 11.7 g) to outline the plains, the sky, the sea and the rock, then filled the cells with a palette of transparent, opalescent and opaque enamels in 32 colours — the mossy greens of the moorland, the blue-black of the water and the greys of the cloud. Each enamelled plate went through between 6 and 10 firings at around 890°C. The hour circle has a striated border and stylised Arabic numerals transfer-printed in moss green, with leaf-shaped hands finished in rhodium plating. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
For collectors
It is a unique piece, and Patek Philippe gives the enamelling in figures: 6.3 m of wire, 32 colours, 6 to 10 firings a plate.
