Overview
The flower of the dead in cloisonné enamel
The Patek Philippe small dome table clock The Dead Celebrate, reference 10047M-001, one of a limited edition of three in Grand Feu cloisonné and paillonné enamel with miniature painting, mariachi and marigolds, gilded hands; 152.4 mm high, 92.6 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 10047M-001 is a small dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, one of a limited edition of three pieces, on the same subject as its companion Day of the Dead clock: Mexico's Día de Muertos, its mariachi and the orange cempasúchil marigolds the festival is known by, in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel with silver leaf beneath the colour.
The musicians' costumes and the marigolds were outlined in about 46.82 m of gold wire (around 23.77 g), and the cells filled with 25 colours of transparent, opaque and semi-transparent enamel, with 2 further colours of miniature painting on enamel for the detail. Silver leaf embedded beneath the translucent enamel, in the paillonné technique, brightens the scene from below. Each enamelled plate needed some 14 firings at 770°C. The hour circle carries a rhodium-plated sunburst with applied Arabic numerals lacquered in 6 colours, framing gilded leaf-shaped hands. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
