Overview
A rotating compass bezel over a flyback chronograph with annual calendar
The RM 60-01 Regatta Flyback Chronograph was Richard Mille’s first watch built for navigation at sea. It uses a round rather than tonneau case, 50 mm across and 16.33 mm thick, assembled from four parts in grade 5 titanium.
Its distinguishing feature is the three-dimensional rotating bezel, which carries the four cardinal points together with a 360° graduation and a 24-hour scale. Orientation depends on two inputs: local time and the position of the sun. This example has a camouflage-pattern strap, a red crown collar and green and yellow bezel markings.

Design and engineering
- Calibre RMAC2An automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, running seconds at 3 o’clock, oversize date, month, annual calendar, flyback chronograph with central seconds counter, countdown timer at 9 o’clock, 24-hour totaliser at 6 o’clock, UTC function and adjustable rotor geometry. The movement is 39.15 mm in diameter and 9.00 mm thick, on 62 jewels at 28,800 vph (4 Hz).
- Baseplate, bridges and balance cock in grade 5 titaniumAll three are grade 5 titanium with a black PVD coating, which Richard Mille specifies for rigidity and for the surface flatness required by the going train.
- Rotating bezel with compass functionThe bezel carries north, south, east and west alongside a 360° graduation and a 24-hour disc. The UTC indicator is aimed at the sun using the pusher at 9 o’clock, then the bezel is turned until the UTC hand aligns with the local time engraved on it, at which point the compass headings correspond to actual directions — in either hemisphere, without further calculation.
- Chronograph pusher lockThe flyback pushers are locked and released by a quick turn of the secondary crown, marked with red and green arrows, which prevents accidental operation.
- Free-sprung balance with variable inertiaThe regulator index is replaced by four small adjustable weights on a Glucydur balance with four arms, a moment of inertia of 4.8 mg·cm² and an angle of lift of 53°.
- Four-part caseAssembled with 46 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers, sealed by two nitrile O-rings to 100 m.
