Overview
A rotating 24-city bezel with a ten-day power reserve
The RM 58-01 Tourbillon World Timer Jean Todt was presented in 2013 in a limited edition of 35 pieces. It departs from the tonneau format used across most of the collection: the case is round, 50.00 mm across and 15.35 mm thick, built in four parts from grade 5 titanium and 5N 18K red gold.
Time zones are changed by turning the bezel rather than by a pusher. The rotating bezel carries the names of 24 cities on a brown upper flange; setting the required city at 12 o’clock brings up the local time and allows the time in the other 23 zones to be read directly from the 24-hour scale. The tourbillon sits at 9 o’clock and the power reserve, drawn from two consecutive barrels and running to around ten days, is displayed on a numerical scale at 2 o’clock.
Key details
Design and engineering
- Calibre RM58-01A manual winding tourbillon movement, 34 mm in diameter, with hours, minutes, a power-reserve indicator and a universal 24-hour time display. The baseplate and bridges are grade 5 titanium; the tourbillon at 9 o’clock oscillates at 3 Hz.
- Rotating city bezelTwenty-four city names, one per time zone, are carried on the brown upper flange of the rotating bezel. The zone is set by turning the bezel anticlockwise until the required city reaches 12 o’clock; no separate adjustment pusher is fitted.
- Two consecutive barrelsThe barrels are arranged in series, giving a power reserve of around ten days shown on a numerical scale at 2 o’clock.
- Four-part caseThe case middle is grade 5 titanium with vertical satin-brushing; the rotating bezel is shot-blasted and polished titanium; the fixed bezel, caseback and lugs are polished and satin-brushed 5N 18K red gold. The crown protector combines satin-brushed grade 5 titanium with shot-blasted 5N 18K red gold.
- Torque-limiting crownFitted to prevent accidental overwinding, which could damage the winding stem or place extreme pressure on the mainspring barrel.
- CrystalsBezel side in sapphire at 1,800 Vickers with anti-glare coating on both faces, 1.10 mm at the centre and 1.75 mm at the outer edges; caseback in sapphire with the same coating, 1.00 mm at the centre and 1.90 mm at the outer edges.
