The automatic descendant of the RM 039, on the RMAC2 calibre
The RM 39-01 follows directly from the RM 039 Tourbillon Aviation, carrying many of its functions in an automatic movement. Like its predecessor it is built around the E6-B slide rule, with a fixed bezel and a bi-directional rotating bezel both marked with the flight-computer scales.
The calibre RMAC2 provides hours, minutes, seconds at 3 o’clock, an oversize date, a month display, a flyback chronograph with central seconds counter, minutes and countdown counters at 9 o’clock, an hour counter at 6 o’clock, a UTC function and a variable-geometry rotor. It runs almost 620 components and 62 jewels, with 50 hours of reserve. The case is titanium.

Design and engineering
- E6-B slide ruleFixed and bi-directional rotating bezels carrying the scales for fuel consumption, flight times, ground speed, density altitude and wind influence, and for conversion between knots, kilometres, gallons, litres, feet, kilograms and pounds. The bezel took months of research to make both easy to adjust and legible across all its calculations.
- Locking crownTurning the ring fixes the pushers and crown in place, so that the chronograph cannot be triggered accidentally in flight. Green and red markers show whether the lock is engaged.
- UTC and countdownA second time zone alongside the chronograph, with the countdown counter sharing the register at 9 o’clock.
- Flyback chronographThe running chronograph can be reset without first being stopped, so that successive durations can be timed in sequence — the reason pilots can take departure signals from radio beacons without a separate sequence of operations.
- Oversize date and monthDate at 12 o’clock, month indicator alongside, over the openworked movement.
- Variable-geometry rotorThe winding rate can be matched to the wearer’s activity level.
