A fully transparent sapphire case over the pink-rod tourbillon

The case is sapphire throughout — bezel, caseband and caseback — so that the lettering on the reverse reads through the watch from the front and the movement appears suspended in the middle of it. That lettering identifies the watch: read in mirror image through the front, it says RM38-02 SAPHIR, LIMITED EDITION.

Inside is the skeletonised manual-winding tourbillon of the RM 38-02, with the two hand-painted pink titanium tubes running diagonally through the movement and pink-tipped bridge ends. The strap is white rubber.

Design and engineering

• Sapphire caseMachined from blocks of sapphire, a material second only to diamond in hardness, which makes it exceptionally slow to cut and finish. Bezel, caseband and caseback are all sapphire, so the watch reads through from either side.
