Caribbean blue Quartz TPT® with Carbon TPT® and a titanium caseband
Released in 2024, this execution of the RM 21-02 Tourbillon Aerodyne combines Caribbean blue Quartz TPT® with Carbon TPT® and a grade 5 titanium caseband, in an edition of 50 pieces. It follows the white Quartz TPT® version of November 2023 and the green Quartz TPT® version of December 2022.
Carbon TPT® and Quartz TPT® are built from hundreds of layers of filament — carbon fibre no more than 30 microns thick, silica thread no more than 45 — impregnated with a matrix and woven on a machine that turns the weft 45° between layers, then heated to 120 °C at 6 bar before CNC machining. The baseplate is Carbon TPT® combined with a honeycombed structure in black-PVD-treated HAYNES 214.

Design and engineering
- Quartz TPT® and Carbon TPT®Both are produced by the same layering process, Quartz TPT® from silica threads and Carbon TPT® from carbon fibre. Layers up to 30 microns thick for the carbon and 45 for the silica are impregnated with a coloured matrix, woven with a 45° change of weft direction between layers, then cured at 120 °C under 6 bar.
- HAYNES 214 honeycomb baseplateHAYNES 214 is a nickel-chromium-aluminium-iron alloy used in high-stress turbine components such as honeycomb seals and combustor splash plates. Its honeycombed geometry was originally researched by NASA for supersonic aircraft wing cores. Here it carries a black PVD treatment and is combined with a Carbon TPT® core.
- Central barrel and tourbillonThe winding barrel and the tourbillon are placed centrally within the aerodynamic structure, balanced on titanium bridges with four arms on either side.
- Torque and power-reserve indicatorsThe torque indicator at 1 o’clock and the power-reserve indicator at 11 o’clock report the quantity and the quality of the energy stored in the barrel.
- Function selectorA hand at 4 o’clock shows the selected position; the crown at 3 o’clock carries a pusher to change it.
- Case constructionThe casing ring is eliminated. The case is assembled with 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers, water resistant to 50 metres.
