Red gold case within a Carbon TPT® exoskeleton, over a HAYNES 214 baseplate
The RM 21-01 Tourbillon Aerodyne carries a case in 5N red gold reinforced by an exoskeleton in Carbon TPT®, used for the bezel and the pillars. The two structures are assembled with 20 spline screws. The case measures 42.68 × 50.12 × 14.30 mm.
The baseplate has a Carbon TPT® core combined with HAYNES 214, a nickel-chromium-aluminium-iron alloy, worked into a honeycombed geometrical pattern and given a blue PVD treatment. The bridges and the interior flange are titanium; the barrel and tourbillon bridges consist of four arms on an openworked circular base edged in gold, seated in the central crucible of the plate. The calibre is finished with a 5N red gold PVD treatment. The dial is sapphire, with the power-reserve indicator in place of the numeral at 11 o’clock and the torque indicator at 1 o’clock.

Design and engineering
- Carbon TPT® exoskeletonCarbon TPT® is built from around 600 layers of parallel filaments obtained by separating carbon fibres. The layers are no more than 30 microns thick, saturated with a black matrix, stacked with a 45° rotation between layers, and heated to 120 °C in a kiln of the type used for aeronautical parts. The layering produces a pattern that differs from case to case.
- HAYNES 214 baseplateThe nickel-chromium-aluminium-iron alloy is stiff and highly resistant to torsion. Its honeycombed geometry is emphasised by a blue PVD treatment, and it is combined with a Carbon TPT® core.
- Titanium bridgesThe bridges and interior flange are titanium. The barrel and tourbillon bridges take the form of four arms on an openworked circular base edged in gold, seated in the central crucible of the baseplate.
- Torque indicatorAt 1 o’clock, the torque indicator shows the internal tension of the mainspring, allowing the running of the movement to be optimised.
- Power-reserve indicatorThe power-reserve indication occupies the position of the numeral at 11 o’clock.
- Sapphire dialA sapphire dial gives an unobstructed view of the calibre, which is finished in 5N red gold PVD.
