Overview
Eight-piece Asia edition in NTPT carbon and red gold
Premiered at Watches & Wonders Hong Kong in 2015, this edition of the RM 022 Aerodyne Dual Time Zone Tourbillon was limited to eight pieces, sold only through Richard Mille boutiques in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Macau, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The bezel and caseback are NTPT carbon; the caseband is red gold, matching the hands and the flange.
The RM 022 was the first watch to combine a dual time zone with an external structure in titanium allied to orthorhombic titanium aluminides and carbon nanofibres. The second time zone is carried on a transparent sapphire disc that rotates continuously through the movement, its hour numerals legible only when they pass the light-coloured field near 3 o’clock. A pusher on the caseband advances the second time zone by one hour per press.

Design and engineering
- NTPT carbonLayers of woven carbon fibre combined with resin are cured in an autoclave under heat and pressure. Machining across the layers produces the visible banding.
- Composite baseplateA titanium exterior framework is combined with honeycomb orthorhombic titanium aluminide and carbon nanofibre. The alloys derive from the titanium aluminide class, with a structure ordered on the orthorhombic phase of Ti2AlNb; the honeycomb geometry was originally researched by NASA for supersonic aircraft wing cores.
- Sapphire disc dual time zoneHours are inscribed on a transparent sapphire disc rotating permanently at the centre of the dial. The figures register only against the background field at 3 o’clock.
- Second-time-zone pusherA push button on the caseband advances the second time zone one hour at a time.
- Torque indicatorThe indicator at 1 o’clock shows mainspring tension, allowing the running of the movement to be optimised.
- Sapphire dialBecause the dial is clear sapphire, the baseplate itself forms the face of the watch.
