Black ceramic case with white gold caseband and 4.65 mm tourbillon calibre
The RM 017 was the first rectangular case in Richard Mille’s tourbillon range, following the rectangular RM 016. Case dimensions are 49.80 × 38.00 × 8.70 mm, retaining the wrist curvature and the taper towards 12 and 6 o’clock used across the collection.
This version carries a black ceramic case with a white gold caseband. TZP is Richard Mille’s designation for black and coloured ceramic; ATZ denotes white ceramic. The calibre RM017 is 4.65 mm thick, and displays hours, minutes, a power-reserve indication and a function indicator.

Design and engineering
- Extra-flat tourbillon constructionThe RM017 calibre measures 31.20 × 29.45 mm with a thickness of 4.65 mm, making it one of the thinnest tourbillon constructions Richard Mille has produced.
- Function indicatorOperating in the manner of a gearbox selector, the indicator shows winding, neutral and hand-setting as the crown is drawn out, read by a hand at 4 o’clock.
- Power-reserve indicationA scale at 2 o’clock shows the hours of energy remaining in the mainspring.
- Barrel pawl with progressive recoilThis mechanism prevents over-tension of the mainspring during winding and removes the risk of shock to the escapement.
- Ceramic endstone for the tourbillon cageThe endstone addresses friction and wear at the cage pivot, following study of tribology at that bearing point.
- Case machiningEach rough case requires 202 separate machining operations across its three components.
