Overview
Carbon TPT® tonneau case with the RM017 tourbillon calibre
The RM 17-01 places the RM017 tourbillon calibre in a tonneau-shaped case measuring 48.15 × 40.10 × 13.08 mm. The movement is unchanged in specification from the rectangular RM 017: manual winding, 23 jewels set in white gold chatons, 3 Hz, and a power reserve of around 70 hours.
This version uses Carbon TPT® for the case. The material is built from carbon filaments laid in layers at alternating angles and impregnated with resin; machining exposes the layer structure as banding across the case surfaces.

Design and engineering
- Baseplate and bridges in grade 5 titaniumThe alloy is 90% titanium, 6% aluminium and 4% vanadium. The skeletonised baseplate and bridges were subjected to complete validation testing to establish their resistance.
- Tourbillon and balanceThe tourbillon cage measures 12.30 mm in diameter and the balance 10.00 mm, running at 21,600 vph with a Glucydur® balance, two arms, four setting screws, moment of inertia 10 mg·cm² and a lift angle of 53°.
- Fast-rotating barrelThe barrel completes one revolution every 6 hours instead of 7.5, reducing periodic internal mainspring adhesion.
- Barrel pawl with progressive recoilThe pawl produces a winding gain of around 20%, particularly at the start of winding, and distributes the mainspring’s internal tension more evenly.
- Safety system with blocking gearThis protects the roller jewel of the balance and the winding barrel against overwinding.
- Tripartite caseThe case is assembled with 12 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers, with water resistance of 50 metres from two nitrile O-ring seals. No casing ring is used; the movement sits on chassis mounting rubbers (ISO SW) fixed by grade 5 titanium screws.
