Overview
The night sky over Geneva, with a set bezel
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Celestial, Joaillerie, reference 6104/13P-010, in platinum with the bezel set with 38 baguette-cut emeralds and a brilliant-cut diamond at 6 o'clock, sky chart on sapphire discs, on a shiny navy blue alligator strap. Self-winding calibre 240 LU CL C with date by hand; 44 mm, 11.33 mm high.
This platinum execution is set with emeralds: 38 baguette-cut on the bezel and 22 on the platinum fold-over clasp, 60 in all, with a brilliant-cut diamond set into the case at 6 o'clock, on a shiny navy blue alligator strap.
The reference 6104 is the Joaillerie form of Patek Philippe's Celestial, the self-winding astronomical watch in the Grand Complications collection whose dial is a moving chart of the night sky. Patek Philippe describes three superimposed ultra-thin sapphire crystal discs — one for the sky, one for the stars, one for the Moon — turning beneath the crystal, so that the configuration of the northern sky can be read at any moment. The case is 44 mm across and 11.33 mm high, water-resistant to 30 m, with a sapphire crystal back.
The movement is the calibre 240 LU CL C, wound by a 22K gold off-centre minirotor: 38 mm across and 6.81 mm high, 305 parts and 45 jewels, running at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour (3 Hz) on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for a power reserve of 38 to 48 hours, under the Patek Philippe Seal. Beside the hours and minutes of mean solar time, read on skeletonised leaf-shaped hands in white gold, and a date by hand, it drives the sky chart with the apparent movement of the stars, the angular motion and phases of the Moon, and the times at which Sirius and the Moon cross the meridian. An ellipse deposited on the underside of the sapphire crystal frames the part of the sky visible from Geneva and from every other city at the same latitude.
For collectors
Patek Philippe gives the bezel as 38 stones and the clasp as 22, on an 11.33 mm case. The astronomy is drawn for Geneva's latitude, which Patek Philippe states plainly.
