The flyback chronograph with a single counter
The Patek Philippe Nautilus Flyback Chronograph, reference 5980/60G-001, in white gold on a blue-grey denim-pattern calfskin strap, opaline blue-grey dial. Self-winding calibre CH 28-520 C with flyback chronograph, a 60-minute and 12-hour monocounter at 6 o'clock and date at 3 o'clock; 40.5 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock, 12.2 mm high.
The reference 5980/60G-001 is the Nautilus flyback chronograph with date, in white gold on a strap rather than a bracelet, with an opaline blue-grey dial. Patek Philippe's point is the counter: elapsed minutes and hours are read together on one large monocounter at 6 o'clock with three concentric scales, rather than on two sub-dials, which leaves the rest of the dial open. The bezel is slimmer, which Patek Philippe says allows a larger dial opening. The case is 40.5 mm from 10 to 4 o'clock and 12.2 mm high, with a screw-down crown and a sapphire crystal back.
The self-winding calibre CH 28-520 C is the brand's flyback chronograph with date: 30 mm across, 6.63 mm high, 327 parts, 35 jewels, wound by a 21K gold central rotor. Patek Philippe names its vertical clutch; flyback means a running chronograph is reset and restarted with one press rather than stopped, reset and started again. Elapsed minutes and hours are read on the single 60-minute and 12-hour counter at 6 o'clock, the date in an aperture at 3 o'clock. It runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for 45 to 55 hours of power reserve, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.

The reference is delivered with two straps in the dial's colour — blue-grey calfskin with a denim pattern and blue-grey composite material with a fabric pattern, both white-stitched — and its date frame is cut in the Nautilus "40th anniversary" font, a detail Patek Philippe records as a feature of the dial rather than a date.
