Tenths of a second, wound by hand
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications 1/10th of a Second Monopusher Chronograph, reference 5470P-001, in platinum with a blue varnished dial, white gold Breguet numerals and a red-lacquered Silinvar® tenths hand, on a navy blue calfskin strap with red stitching. Manually wound calibre CH 29-535 PS 1/10 at 36,000 semi-oscillations an hour; 41 mm, 13.68 mm.
The reference 5470P-001 is Patek Philippe's 1/10th of a second monopusher chronograph, in platinum, in the Grand Complications collection. Patek Philippe presents the movement as one that measures and displays tenths of a second and holds that precision through the whole of a timing, and says 31 patents have been filed for it. The case, which Patek Philippe says is based on the 5370 model, measures 41 mm across and 13.68 mm high, with a diamond set at 6 o'clock and interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal case backs. The dial is blue varnished with applied Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands in white gold, and a central 1/10th of a second hand in red-lacquered Silinvar®.
The calibre CH 29-535 PS 1/10 is wound by hand and runs at 36,000 semi-oscillations an hour (5 Hz), which Patek Philippe calls a high-frequency movement. It takes, Patek Philippe says, all the innovations of its "Advanced Research" work in Silinvar® — the Oscillomax® ensemble — and its balance spring is a Spiromax®. Two central hands serve the chronograph: the chronograph seconds hand and the 1/10th of a second hand, the latter in Silinvar® and red lacquered, with a display Patek Philippe describes as patented and as making the tenths fast and accurate to read; an instantaneous 30-minute counter and small seconds complete it. The movement measures 29.6 mm across and 6.96 mm high, with 347 parts and 38 jewels, has a power reserve of at least 48 hours with the chronograph disengaged, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.

The figure Patek Philippe leads with is 31 patents filed for one movement, and the tenths hand is where they show: it is Silinvar®, red lacquered, and runs from the centre alongside the chronograph seconds hand, with a display patented for the reading of tenths.
