Overview
A split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Split-seconds Chronograph, Perpetual Calendar, reference 5204G-010, in white gold with a sunburst navy blue dial, white gold markers and dauphine hands, on a navy blue composite strap with red stitching and a second strap in dark blue alligator. Manually wound calibre CHR 29-535 PS Q; 40 mm, 14.3 mm high.
The reference 5204 is Patek Philippe's split-seconds chronograph with perpetual calendar on the manually wound calibre CHR 29-535 PS Q, in the Grand Complications collection, in a fully polished white gold case 40 mm across and 14.3 mm high with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal case backs. The brand shows it in two white gold executions on the one movement and case: a sunburst navy blue dial on a navy blue composite strap, and — no longer in the current collection — a sunburst olive green dial on an olive green calfskin strap.
The split-seconds chronograph — a second seconds hand that can be halted for an intermediate time and then rejoin the first — is controlled, Patek Philippe says, by two column wheels and a horizontal clutch. The 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock is instantaneous and the small seconds sit at 9 o'clock. The perpetual calendar shows the day and month in a double aperture at 12 o'clock, the leap year and day/night indications in apertures, and the date by hand at 6 o'clock beside the moon phases. The movement measures 32 mm across and 8.7 mm high, with 496 parts and 34 jewels; it runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Breguet balance spring, has a power reserve of 55 to 65 hours with the chronograph disengaged, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.
For collectors
The movement has two column wheels and a horizontal clutch, and the 40 mm case has interchangeable backs. The interchangeable backs mean the watch can be worn with the solid back or with the sapphire one showing the movement.
