Overview

A split-seconds chronograph in two tones of enamel

The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Split-seconds Chronograph, reference 5370R-001, in rose gold with a brown Grand Feu enamel dial, its sub-dials and tachymeter scale in beige champlevé enamel, rose gold Breguet numerals and leaf-shaped hands, on a shiny dark chestnut alligator strap. Manually wound calibre CHR 29-535 PS; 41 mm, 13.56 mm high.

The reference 5370R-001 is Patek Philippe's split-seconds chronograph in rose gold, in the Grand Complications collection, with a dial in two tones of Grand Feu enamel: brown for the ground, beige champlevé enamel for the subsidiary dials and the tachymeter scale, worked by hand on an 18K gold plate — a decoration the brand says does not alter in colour. The case measures 41 mm across and 13.56 mm high, polished, with a concave bezel and recessed satin-finished flanks, and interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal case backs.

The calibre CHR 29-535 PS is wound by hand and is the split-seconds chronograph without a calendar: Patek Philippe describes its column wheels and horizontal clutch, and credits it with seven patented innovations on a traditional construction. A split-seconds chronograph carries a second seconds hand that can be halted for an intermediate time and then rejoin the first; here it runs with an instantaneous 30-minute counter and small seconds. The movement measures 29.6 mm across and 7.1 mm high, with 312 parts and 34 jewels; it runs at 28,800 semi-oscillations an hour on a Breguet balance spring, has a power reserve of at least 65 hours with the chronograph disengaged, and carries the Patek Philippe Seal.

For collectors

The dial is the reference's point: Grand Feu enamel in two tones on an 18K gold plate, the subsidiary dials and the tachymeter scale in beige champlevé against the brown ground. Patek Philippe presents the colours as unalterable — the case the brand makes for enamel — and the decoration as hand-crafted.
