Overview
The 5374's flange, set in stone
The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Minute Repeater, Perpetual Calendar, Haute Joaillerie, reference 5374/400P-001, in platinum set with baguette-cut diamonds and Paraíba tourmalines, white Balinese mother-of-pearl dial, on a shiny slate grey calfskin strap. Self-winding calibre R 27 Q chiming on two cathedral gongs, with perpetual calendar by hands; 42 mm, 12.28 mm high.
This execution sets Paraíba tourmalines beside the diamonds — 48 baguette-cut tourmalines as minute markers on the flange and 36 on the clasp, 84 in all, with 171 baguette-cut diamonds on the bezel, flange, caseband and slide piece — over a white Balinese mother-of-pearl dial whose hour markers are baguette diamonds and whose moon phases sit at 6 o'clock. Patek Philippe presents it as a limited edition of 8 watches and calls the Paraíba tourmaline one of the rarest gems. It comes on a shiny slate grey calfskin strap embossed with an alligator pattern, on the brand's patented triple-blade fold-over clasp.
The reference 5374 in its Haute Joaillerie form is the platinum execution of Patek Philippe's minute repeater with perpetual calendar, set with baguette-cut stones in invisible setting on the bezel, the sides of the caseband and lugs, and the repeater's slide piece, with more on the fold-over clasp. Patek Philippe's own point is the dial flange: the hour and minute markers are baguette-cut stones set into it, which Patek Philippe describes as creating a depth effect. The case is 42 mm across and 12.28 mm high, with a diamond set at 6 o'clock, humidity- and dust-protected only, and comes with interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal backs.
The calibre R 27 Q is wound by a 22K gold off-centre guilloched minirotor and measures 28 mm across and 6.9 mm high, with 478 parts and 39 jewels; it runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour (3 Hz) on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, for 38 to 48 hours of power reserve, under the Patek Philippe Seal. The minute repeater strikes on two “cathedral” gongs; the perpetual calendar — day, date, month, leap year and a 24-hour indication — is read by hands, with the moon phases on the dial. The dial plate is 18K gold and the leaf-shaped hands are white gold with white luminescent coating; the caseband and slide piece carry 86 baguette-cut diamonds.
For collectors
The setting is counted by Patek Philippe piece by piece: on the flange, baguette diamonds serve as hour markers with Paraíba tourmaline minute markers, and the bezel, caseband and slide piece carry diamonds.
