The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Minute Repeater, Rare Handcrafts, reference 5178G-012, in polished white gold with a hand-guilloched dial under midnight blue flinqué Grand Feu enamel, on a shiny peacock blue alligator strap. Self-winding calibre R 27 PS chiming on two cathedral gongs, with small seconds; 40 mm, 10.53 mm high.
The reference 5178G-012 is a self-winding minute repeater in a fully polished white gold case 40 mm across and 10.53 mm high, listed under Rare Handcrafts for its dial: a white gold plate hand-guilloched with a swirling pattern and covered in translucent midnight blue Grand Feu enamel, the flinqué technique, with applied Breguet numerals and Breguet-style hands in white gold. What sets its movement apart is the gongs: Patek Philippe specifies two “cathedral” gongs, which it says give a particularly rich, deep sound. The case is humidity- and dust-protected only and comes with interchangeable backs, solid and sapphire crystal.
The calibre R 27 PS is wound by a 22K gold off-centre guilloched minirotor and measures 28 mm across and 5.05 mm high, with 327 parts and 39 jewels; it runs at 21,600 semi-oscillations an hour (3 Hz) on a Gyromax® balance with a Spiromax® balance spring, with a power reserve of 43 to 48 hours, under the Patek Philippe Seal. It strikes on demand on the two cathedral gongs and carries small seconds. Two alligator straps are supplied: shiny peacock blue with cream stitching as fitted, and shiny orange with blue stitching, on a white gold fold-over clasp.
