Overview
Gaudí's park in cloisonné enamel
The Patek Philippe dome table clock Jardin Extraordinaire, reference 20216M-001, a unique piece in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel in 69 shades with miniature painting, after the mosaics of Gaudí's Barcelona park, with plique-à-jour hands in yellow gold; 213.5 mm high, 128 mm wide, on the calibre 17''' PEND DOME rewound by an electric motor.
The reference 20216M-001 is a dome table clock from Patek Philippe's Rare Handcrafts collection, a unique piece the brand presents as a tribute to Antoni Gaudí on the centenary of his death, and in particular to his park in Barcelona — the ceramic mosaics that cover its sculptures and structures. It is worked in Grand Feu cloisonné enamel, with the detail in miniature painting and the hands in plique-à-jour.
The mosaics were drawn in about 21.36 m of gold wire (around 37.13 g) and coloured in 69 shades of enamel, mostly transparent with some opalescent and opaque; 5 colours of miniature painting on enamel carried the fine detail, and 7 tints of a lustrous enamel gave some motifs a satin sheen. Each enamelled plate went through 7 to 9 firings at 890°C to 910°C. The hour circle is blue and white lacquer in the mosaic spirit of the clock, with lozenge-shaped hour markers in white lacquer and stylised yellow gold hands filled with plique-à-jour enamel; the dial centre is cloisonné enamel in blue monochromes, after the broken-tile faience Gaudí used. The clock is driven by the calibre 17''' PEND DOME, a mechanical movement rewound by an electric motor.
For collectors
This clock uses 69 shades of enamel and 7 lustrous tints for a satin sheen, and Patek Philippe describes the dial centre as mosaic in enamel, the park's technique carried onto the clock's own face.
