The first anniversary piece
The F.P. Journe Chronomètre Souverain Anniversaire Tokyo, reference CS, in polished titanium with an 18K 6N gold crown, on a leather strap, with the ruthenium-coated guilloché silver dial. 40 mm and 8 mm high, hand-wound calibre 1304 in 18K rose gold, with twin barrels in parallel and small seconds at 7:30.
The Tokyo anniversary series began with this watch. F.P. Journe launched it in 2005 for the first anniversary of its Tokyo boutique, in 20 pieces numbered 1 to 20 and sold only there: a Chronomètre Souverain made, in the brand's account, for the first time with a polished titanium case and a ruthenium-coated silver dial. The model takes its pattern from the marine chronometers of the early nineteenth century and won the Best Men's Watch award at the Geneva watchmaking Grand Prix.
Calibre 1304 is hand-wound, 4.00 mm high, made in 18K rose gold. Its two mainspring barrels run in parallel, driving the train together rather than one after the other. The balance is free-sprung, regulated by four inertia weights on its rim with a flat micro-flamed Anachron spring, and beats at 21,600 vibrations an hour. Small seconds are at 7:30 and the reserve is 56 ± 2 hours.
For collectors
Journe's note on chronometry separates rate from precision. A watch regulated in Geneva may show a difference of several seconds elsewhere, and in his account a steady daily gain confirms precision rather than contradicting it, just as ships' captains once subtracted their chronometer's known rate to find the exact time.
