Tourbillon with constant force
The F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain Anniversaire Tokyo, reference TT, in polished titanium with an 18K 6N gold crown, on a leather strap, with the ruthenium-on-gold and whitened guilloché silver dial. 40 mm and 9.9 mm high, hand-wound calibre 1403 with tourbillon, remontoir d'égalité and deadbeat seconds.
F.P. Journe marked the third anniversary of its Tokyo boutique with a Tourbillon Souverain with remontoir d'égalité and deadbeat seconds, in what the brand calls the now classical anniversary case of polished titanium, with a ruthenium-coated gold dial. The series was numbered 1 to 20 and produced in 2007 and 2008, five pieces for each boutique: Tokyo, Hong Kong, Geneva and Boca Raton. The brand now directs clients to the current Tourbillon Souverain in platinum or 18K 6N gold.
A tourbillon, in the brand's words, improves the general running of a watch; here a constant-force device, the remontoir d'égalité, is added so that the tourbillon receives the same energy for a full 42 hours rather than the declining force of the mainspring. The seconds are a patented deadbeat, the hand advancing in whole-second steps, which the brand says gives a more accurate reading of the time. Hours and minutes are read at 3 o'clock, small seconds at 6 and the reserve at 12. Calibre 1403 is hand-wound, in 18K rose gold.

The amplitude figures show the remontoir at work: F.P. Journe gives 280° dial-up at full wind and the same 280° at 24 hours, which is what a constant-force device is there to deliver.
