Overview
Tiber and the Iseum Campense, in marble and micro-mosaic
The Vacheron Constantin Métiers d'Art Tribute to Great Civilisations – Tibre de l'Iseum Campense, reference 7620A/000R-H079, in 18K pink gold with a marble and micro-mosaic dial depicting Tiber, on a brown alligator strap. Self-winding calibre 2460 G4/2 with hours, minutes, day and date by aperture; 42 mm, 12.93 mm high, Hallmark of Geneva certified.
The reference 7620A/000R-H079 is the Roman piece in the same four-artwork second series, in 18K pink gold, which the brand describes as a limited edition without stating a number. The dial is worked in 18K gold, textured with gold leaf and finished under a translucent enamel; its main applique is glyptic-carved from Italian marble with a hand-applied patina, depicting the head of Tiber and his cornucopia. A second applique beside it is worked in stone micro-mosaic, drawn from a mosaic uncovered at Utica that the brand dates to the late second century AD, with miniature painting filling the gaps between its pieces. The outer frieze is engraved mother-of-pearl, taken from a Louvre terracotta relief the brand dates to the first century BC and describes as a Dionysian dance scene. The case is 42 mm across and 12.93 mm high, on a brown alligator leather strap closed by an 18K pink gold triple folding clasp.
The movement is the self-winding calibre 2460 G4/2, 6.05 mm high with 237 parts and 27 jewels, running at 28,800 V.P.H. (4 Hz) for a stated 40-hour power reserve; hours, minutes, day and date are shown by aperture, alongside a balance-stop function. The watch is certified to the Hallmark of Geneva, a mark the brand traces to 1886 and describes as standing for provenance and reliable workmanship rather than any single technical figure.
For collectors
This is the only one of the four second-series artworks whose dial combines two separate applique techniques - glyptic carving and stone micro-mosaic - rather than one, per each page's own dial description.
