Athena of Velletri, carved in Paros marble
The Vacheron Constantin Métiers d'Art Tribute to Great Civilisations – Athéna de Velletri, reference 7620A/000R-H081, in 18K pink gold with a Paros marble glyptic applique of Athena, on a black alligator strap. Self-winding calibre 2460 G4/2 with hours, minutes, day and date by aperture; 42 mm, 12.93 mm high, Hallmark of Geneva certified.
The reference 7620A/000R-H081 is the Greek piece in the same second series, in 18K pink gold, which the brand describes as a limited edition without a stated number. Its applique, glyptic-carved from Paros marble with a hand-applied patina, depicts the protective goddess of Athens. At the dial's centre, a stone marquetry composition topped with miniature painting reproduces a Greek amphora from Milos that the brand dates to the late fifth century BC, showing a battle between giants and gods on chariots drawn by horses. The inner frieze is worked in black champlevé enamel, drawn from a krater the brand attributes to the painter Aegisthus around 460 BC; the outer frieze, in 18K white gold, is engraved and patinated with a Dionysian scene. The case is 42 mm across and 12.93 mm high, on a black alligator leather strap closed by an 18K pink gold triple folding clasp.
