Overview

Grey Quartz TPT® case with blue and yellow accents

This execution uses Grey Quartz TPT® for the case, with blue and yellow pusher caps and flange detailing and a black rubber strap. Quartz TPT® is produced from silica threads divided into layers no thicker than 45 microns, saturated in resins developed for Richard Mille, stacked with the fibre orientation rotated by 45° between plies, then cured at 120°C under 6 bar and machined at the brand’s own facilities.

The movement is the RMAC4, unchanged across the RM 65-01 executions: a skeletonised automatic split-seconds chronograph running at 36,000 vph with a rapid-winding pusher, a function selector in the crown and a variable-geometry rotor.

Design and engineering

  • Quartz TPT® caseQuartz TPT® is produced from silica threads divided into layers no thicker than 45 microns, saturated in resins developed for Richard Mille, stacked with the fibre orientation rotated by 45° between plies, then cured at 120°C under 6 bar and machined in-house. Machining exposes the layering as a striation unique to each case.
  • Calibre RMAC4Skeletonised automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, seconds at 6 o’clock, date, split-seconds chronograph with a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock, function selector, rapid winding and variable-geometry rotor. It measures 31.78 × 29.98 mm by 8.69 mm thick, on 51 jewels at 36,000 vph (5 Hz), with around 60 hours (± 10%) of power reserve without the chronograph running.
  • Split-seconds architectureTwo six-column wheels with a vertical clutch. The 5 Hz frequency allows elapsed times to be read to a tenth of a second. Richard Mille records shock and drop simulations, accelerated ten-year ageing of the functions, water-resistance testing and magnetic field trials for the chronograph.
  • Rapid windingThe pusher at 8 o’clock rearms the barrel directly, without the crown; 125 presses take it to a full charge. Richard Mille specifies it for restarting a watch that has stopped.
  • Variable-geometry rotorThe oscillating weight segment can be reconfigured to change the rotor’s inertia, and so the winding yield, according to how active the wearer is.
  • Colour codingThe dial is coded by function rather than decorated: yellow for the time, green for the date, orange for the chronograph displays, red for winding and blue for the split-seconds hand.
