Split-seconds chronograph with rapid winding and function selector
The RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph was released in 2020 after five years of development with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. Richard Mille describes it as the most complex watch to have left its workshops, and it was issued as a series production model rather than a limited edition.
Two features are unusual for the brand. A pusher at 8 o’clock winds the barrel directly, without the crown: 125 presses take it to a full charge. And the crown itself carries a function selector, which Richard Mille records as a first on one of its automatic watches.
The dial is colour-coded by function: yellow for the time, green for the date, orange for the chronograph displays, red for winding and blue for the split-seconds hand.

It measures 31.78 × 29.98 mm by 8.69 mm thick, on 51 jewels at 36,000 vph (5 Hz), with around 60 hours (± 10%) of power reserve without the chronograph running.
- Split-seconds architectureTwo six-column wheels with a vertical clutch. The 5 Hz frequency allows elapsed times to be read to a tenth of a second. Richard Mille records shock and drop simulations, accelerated ten-year ageing of the functions, water-resistance testing and magnetic field trials for the chronograph.
- Rapid windingThe pusher at 8 o’clock rearms the barrel directly, without the crown; 125 presses take it to a full charge. Richard Mille specifies it for restarting a watch that has stopped. The pusher is capped in red Quartz TPT®.
- Fast-rotating barrelOne revolution every six hours instead of the more common seven and a half, which maintains torque across the power reserve.
- Variable-geometry rotorThe oscillating weight segment can be reconfigured to change the rotor’s inertia, and so the winding yield, according to how active the wearer is.
- Baseplate and bridgesGrade 5 titanium — 90% titanium, 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium — wet sandblasted with PVD and electroplasma treatment. The movement sits on chassis mounting rubbers rather than a conventional casing ring.
- Case and dialTripartite Carbon TPT® case measuring 44.50 × 49.94 × 16.10 mm, with microblasted, polished and satin-finished grade 5 titanium crown and chronograph pushers. The dial is sapphire, 0.35 mm thick with anti-glare treatment on both faces, held by eight silicon braces in the upper and lower grooves, with titanium counters.
