Hour disc and hour hand set turning by a crown pusher
The RM 63-01 Dizzy Hands was introduced in 2014. Pressing the pusher built into the crown sets the sapphire hour disc rotating anticlockwise while the hour hand turns the other way, so that the watch stops indicating the time. A second press returns the display to the correct time.
The calibre CRMA3 was developed for the function at Richard Mille’s Les Breuleux facility. It reworks principles taken from chronograph construction: a column wheel at 1 o’clock actuates the rotation mechanism for the sapphire hour disc and the hour hand, and a hammer at 3 o’clock triggers the return to the correct reading. The hour and minute functions are separated from one another entirely.
The case introduced a round format to the collection, with 18K red gold front and back bezels around a titanium caseband and the lugs formed as separate elements.

Design and engineering
- Calibre CRMA3Automatic winding movement with hours, minutes, a rotor in 5N gold and the Dizzy Hands function. The movement is 31.00 mm in diameter and 6.675 mm thick, on 35 jewels at 28,800 vph (4 Hz), with a power reserve of circa 50 hours (± 10%).
- Column wheel and hammerThe column wheel at 1 o’clock drives the rotation of the sapphire hour disc and the hour hand; the hammer at 3 o’clock returns the movement to its initial state.
- Baseplate and bridgesGrade 5 titanium, microblasted and electroplasma treated. The skeletonised baseplate and the bridges were validated separately through strength testing.
- BalanceCuBe with four arms and four setting screws, a moment of inertia of 7.5 mg·cm² and an angle of lift of 50°, with an AK3 balance spring and Incabloc 908.22.211.100 shock protection.
- Flat-head screwsThe calibre uses flat-head screws with six-holed heads, based on the snake-eye screw principle used where exact assembly torque is required.
- Round three-part case18K red gold front and back bezels with a titanium caseband and a curved front bezel, assembled with 16 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers. The lugs are separate components of the case design.
