Silent alarm transmitted by vibration
The RM 62-01 Tourbillon Vibrating Alarm ACJ is the second watch from the collaboration between Richard Mille and Airbus Corporate Jets, following the RM 50-02 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph of 2016, from which it takes its case lines. It was released in 2019 in a limited edition of 30 pieces.
Its alarm produces no sound. In place of a hammer striking a gong or the case, the signal is delivered as a vibration through the case to the wrist, produced by an oscillating weight machined from a single piece of white gold and calibrated to turn at 5,400 rpm. The vibration runs for a maximum of 12 seconds and draws on a barrel dedicated to it, recharged by twelve presses of the pusher at 8 o’clock.
Richard Mille describes the calibre as the most complicated it has produced: 816 parts, two barrels, seven hands, eleven displays and a tourbillon cage, developed through four partial prototypes.

Design and engineering
- Calibre RM62-01A manual winding tourbillon movement with hours, minutes, oversize date, UTC, am/pm indicator, function selector and power-reserve indicator, together with the vibrating alarm and its on/off activation indicator. Power reserve is circa 70 hours (± 10%), shown at 11 o’clock, at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz).
- Vibrating alarm mechanismDeveloped with Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi. At the programmed time an oscillating weight in white gold begins to rotate at 5,400 rpm, transmitting the signal to the wrist. The weight, its speed and its barrel were subjected to simulation work to establish that the frequency would not disturb the rest of the movement.
- Alarm settingA subdial between 4 and 5 o’clock carries hour and minute hands allowing the alarm to be set to the minute across a full 24 hours, using the function selector at 3 o’clock. An on/off indicator sits at 5 o’clock.
- Double bezelA second bezel, milled from a block of Carbon TPT® to a thickness of 1.8 mm, sits on a satin-polished titanium bezel; the arrangement is repeated on the caseback. Richard Mille specifies the titanium and Carbon TPT® pairing for its weight-to-stiffness ratio, so that the alarm’s vibrations are carried to the wrist and deflected away from the movement.
- Skeletonised grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridgesBlack PVD treated. The calibre carries Chronofiable® A8 certification.
- Free-sprung balance with variable inertiaPositioned at 9 o’clock, adjusted by four setting screws with the index eliminated.
