The all-Carbon TPT® Mask

Executed entirely in Carbon TPT®, this is the version Richard Mille expected to be the most enigmatic of the four: the mask reads against a case of uniform black, with the layered striations of the composite the only variation across the surface.

Carbon TPT® is made by the same process as Quartz TPT® but from carbon threads rather than quartz fibres. The strap is black.

Design and engineering

• Carbon TPT®Carbon threads in layers no thicker than 30 microns, saturated with resin, stacked with a 45° change of orientation between layers, cured at 120 °C under 6 bar and CNC machined at Richard Mille.
• Mask as componentServing as the wheel-train and tourbillon bridge rather than sitting over the movement, with the back of the mask performing the function of the centre bridge.
• Eight connecting bridgesConnecting the mask to the case and visible from the back, all grade 5 titanium and all created from a single block.
• Microblasted surfaces with polished anglageMicroblasted surfaces accentuated by polished anglage, which emphasises the protruding edges of the mask.
• An open readingRichard Mille leaves the reading open — a luchador, a kabuki mask, a superhero, a gladiator helmet — and describes it as a Rorschach test.
