Blue sapphire case with a blue skull to match
The case is blue sapphire throughout — bezel, caseband and caseback — with the skull finished in the same blue so that the watch reads as a single material from the front, the back and the flanks. The crown is blue and the strap blue rubber.
Sapphire cases are among the slowest things Richard Mille makes: the material is second only to diamond in hardness, and breakage during machining is common enough to account for much of the cost.
