Overview
Red Quartz TPT® with undyed white quartz layers, calibre RMAL1
The RM 35-02 arrived in 2016 as the first automatic watch in the Nadal collection, answering requests from Richard Mille customers for a self-winding Nadal calibre. It was also the first in the collection to receive a sapphire caseback, so the skeletonised calibre RMAL1 can be seen from either side.
The case is Quartz TPT® Red, the undyed white quartz fibre showing through the red matrix as pale striations. The crown is red, the flange carries the yellow RM35-02 RAFA plaque and the strap is red rubber.

Design and engineering
- Quartz TPT® RedThe white quartz fibre is left undyed, as watchmaking custom dictates, and offers a high resistance-to-weight ratio, hypoallergenic properties and UV resistance. Richard Mille and North Thin Ply Technology developed a red matrix to contrast with the natural white of the quartz and its transparent resin. The material is REACH compliant and withstands accelerations of up to 5,000 g.
- Variable-geometry rotorRichard Mille’s patented system, allowing the winding rate to be matched to the wearer’s activity by adjusting the rotor’s inertia.
- Sapphire casebackA first for the Nadal collection, treated anti-reflective so that the calibre can be read from the reverse.
- Double-barrel systemProvides the 55-hour reserve and stabilises torque delivery over a longer period.
- Free-sprung balance with variable inertiaRunning at 4 Hz, regulated by weights on the balance rather than an index.
- Baseplate and bridges in grade 5 titaniumBlack PVD treated, with red accents across the movement.
