Terracotta Quartz TPT® case with the CRMA9 extra-flat calibre

The RM 16-02 Automatic Extraflat was introduced in 2025 as a reworking of the rectangular RM 016. The case is 10% smaller than the RM 016 and omits the date carried by the earlier model. Two versions were released: grade 5 titanium, and this Quartz TPT® version in a terracotta colour introduced with the model.

Terracotta Quartz TPT® is formed from silica threads 45 micrometres in diameter, laid at alternating angles in a coloured matrix, then heated, pressurised and milled. Richard Mille’s release pairs the terracotta bezel and caseback with a creamy white Quartz TPT® caseband.

Design and engineering

  • Calibre CRMA9A movement developed specifically for the RM 16-02, 4.12 mm thick. The skeletonised baseplate is microblasted grade 5 titanium with grey electroplasma treatment and occupies the entire visible surface of the watch; the motion-work bridge is finished in black PVD. The structure carries 67 chamfered apertures.
  • Free-sprung balance with variable inertiaThe regulator index is eliminated in favour of four adjustable weights mounted on the balance itself, which allows repeatable calibration and removes a wear point.
  • Platinum rotorWinding uses a platinum rotor with the OneWay® system running on ceramic ball bearings, which allows sufficient winding torque within the movement’s reduced thickness.
  • Tripartite caseBezel, caseband and caseback are machined separately and assembled with 12 grade 5 titanium spline screws and abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel washers. Water resistance of 30 metres is provided by three nitrile O-ring seals. No casing ring is used; the movement is mounted on chassis mounting rubbers (ISO SW) fixed by titanium screws.
  • Sapphire dialThe dial is a shaped sapphire plate sitting above the baseplate, with indices following a wire decal that runs across the openworked movement.
