Overview
Grey Cermet bezel with Carbon TPT® caseband
The RM 11-05 was the first Richard Mille to use Cermet, a composite of a metallic zirconium matrix with high-performance ceramic inserts. It is used for the front bezel; the caseband is Carbon TPT® and the caseback grade 5 titanium, a combination chosen to reduce the weight of the watch.
The calibre is the RMAC3, with a GMT display adjusted by a pusher at 9 o’clock alongside the flyback chronograph, annual calendar and oversize date. The watch is on a blue rubber strap with a folding clasp. The edition ran to 140 pieces, available from July 2020.

Design and engineering
- CermetThe material owes its grey colour to the combination of a metallic zirconium matrix with high-performance ceramic inserts. It is produced by flash sintering, pairing classic hot stamping with a series of powerful electrical current pulses that increase the sintering kinetics. Its density is 4.1 g/cm³, below that of titanium, and its hardness 2,360 Vickers against diamond’s 2,400 — which is what makes it suitable for a bezel exposed to scratching while keeping the watch light.
- DevelopmentRemoving the unsuitable binders and retaining only the required materials took Richard Mille and the IMI Group, a microtechnology specialist, several years.
- Case combinationGrey Cermet front bezel, Carbon TPT® caseband and grade 5 titanium caseback, held together by 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws, in a case measuring 50.00 × 42.70 × 16.15 mm.
- GMT functionA second time zone is displayed and adjusted by a pushpiece at 9 o’clock. The countdown at 9 o’clock replaces the hand with a skeletonised disc marked in 60 minutes.
- Calibre RMAC3Skeletonised automatic winding movement with grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges, 68 jewels, 28,800 vph, double barrel and a variable-geometry rotor in titanium with an 18k white gold weight segment.
- Other applications of CermetThe material is used in ballistic protection, external aerospace fuselage components and the brakes of competition vehicles.
