A case cut from lilac sapphire, a new shade for Richard Mille
An RM 07-02 Automatic Sapphire with its case cut from lilac sapphire, on a pale pink strap. Through the transparent case show a pink flange and a gem-set dial: white baguette diamonds above and below the centre, arcs of small pink stones, and pink hands. A faceted orange stone tops the white crown.
Richard Mille first made cases entirely of coloured sapphire in 2015. Lilac is a new shade: the colour comes from metal oxides built into the crystal, and many trials are needed before a new shade is approved. Each case takes over 1,000 hours of machining, including 430 hours to preform the parts and 350 hours of polishing. The lilac version is limited to seven pieces.

Design and engineering
- Sapphire caseCrafted from sections of coloured sapphire taken from a single block, which makes it extremely difficult to machine. The front and rear bezels carry an anti-reflective coating.
- Gem-set dialStones decorate the dial, catching the light through the sapphire case.
- Variable-geometry rotorTwo adjustable weights set the rotor to the owner’s activity level; OneWay® ceramic winding system on ball bearings, winding in both directions.
