A hand-engraved gold dragon on a black onyx baseplate
The RM 057 Dragon–Jackie Chan was presented in 2012, the Year of the Dragon, in a limited edition of 36 pieces cased in 18K white or red gold. This record holds the red gold execution, on a black strap.
The movement baseplate is black onyx. A dragon in 18K gold, entirely hand-engraved, is fitted within the movement so that its body twists around the bridges and barrel, with the tourbillon held in one claw. A disc set into the side of the onyx baseplate carries an engraved Jackie Chan signature and rotates once every 60 seconds, in step with the tourbillon.

Design and engineering
- Calibre RM057A manual winding tourbillon with hours, minutes and a power-reserve indicator. The movement measures 32.80 × 29.00 mm by 5.17 mm thick, runs on 21 jewels at 21,600 vph (3 Hz), and carries a tourbillon 12.30 mm in diameter.
- Black onyx baseplateThe baseplate is cut from black onyx rather than metal — a cryptocrystalline quartz chalcedony of silicon dioxide. A disc set into its side carries an engraved Jackie Chan signature and rotates once every 60 seconds, in step with the tourbillon.
- Dragon entwined in the movementThe dragon is 18K gold, hand-engraved throughout; Richard Mille states that no fewer than 20 engravers are involved in producing the pattern. Its body twists around the bridges and barrel with the tourbillon held in one claw, and the whole piece is 5.5 mm thick. On specific versions the scales are finished by hand using micro-painting.
- Variable-inertia free-sprung balanceThere is no index plate; adjustment is made with four setting screws on a Glucydur balance with two arms, a moment of inertia of 10 mg·cm² and an angle of lift of 53°.
- Barrel pawl with progressive recoilRichard Mille specifies a winding gain of around 20%, particularly at the start of winding, and a more even distribution of the mainspring’s internal tension.
- Case productionThe tonneau case requires 47 stamping operations including 21 striking, four hours of machining and 255 milling procedures, followed by a further day of grinding, satin brushing and polishing.
